March 2, 1969
Hi, Mom+ Dad + Dan
Well, it’s Sat. night, March 1st, 1969. We had the afternoon off. I’m going to mass tomorrow morning with a bunch of guys. We all went to confession last Monday. These guys are from Chicago, Miami, Connecticut, Ohio, and Mass. We’re all going to get up early and go to the church. We just might stop at the local coffee shop and get a bite to eat. “You know”. We might go out and practice on the bars and do some running tonight.
You guys are probably down to camp right having a ball. What do you do with Clem when you go? It sure is nice down here. No snow and all sunshine. Its only rained twice since I’ve been here. You should see the sick call list every day here. These kids who can’t take it. Really its easy. If you keep your mouth shut and do what you are told to you won’t get yelled at or pushed around. I haven’t gotten yelled at yet. They don’t push the kid around because they know what will happen.
There was a kid in this company last cycle of the DI.’s was telling us the D.I. was demonstrating on this kid how to do hand to hand combat and when the D.I. tried something the kid knew judo or something and ended up demonstrating on the D.I. this happens everywhere. There was a D.I. killed down here just about 3 weeks ago. The FBI is on the case. They can’t find the weapon, or they don’t have the motive.
Boy, do I miss you guys.
A bunch of kids who had their shots today are sick tonight. They get temperatures and stomach aches and about 6 hours later they are alright. But the kid. Nothing happened either time. I got six holes in my arms. But that’s nothing. Speaking of holes, you asked if the blood I donated was for the boys in Nam well it was. The blood was sent out by jet out of Jackson the very next day.
We just buffed the floor again (Elec buffer) and you can see yourself in it.
I got a kick out of our D.I the very first time we him he made us run out behind the barracks and set down our duffle bags and told us our saying. Which we say anytime an officer of our basic training unit says “seats”

HUR-RAY
That’s our saying. We didn’t do to good the first time. The D.I. said we sounded like a bunch of girls and to try it again. It still didn’t sound too good. Guys saying it too fast or too slow. So, he said we sounded like a bunch of girls again and for us to reach down and see if we all have “balls”. We all broke out laughing and he got really mad. But we said it right the next time. Were pretty good at it now. What’s Danny doing now? How’s your Mikey Mouse truck coming along dad? I heard your going to try and build a camper for it. I hope it doesn’t grow ears. But the trick is really a nice truck. Boy your parts for it somewhere else besides Zayre.
Mom-
When I get home, you’re going to have to get a whistle so you can get me up at 4:30 and take me out to run and have ham + eggs when I get back in about 5:30 ok. “Well, you know I think I’ll sleep” that fits me better than this 4:30 stuff. You must think I’m a nut for writing so much but I want to write if you’ll read it. I might say things two or three times but when I get finished, I can think of a lot of things to say. Well, its 19:40 (that’s military time) or 7:40 or 20 min of 8
You guys are probably on your way home from camp or maybe you are already home. I got to go now and mail some letter. I love you all.
Say hi to everyone for me. Could you send me Wayne Lougee’s address. And some stamps. I’ll send you my reg. for the falcon. You can use the car anytime you want. Tell Danny he better send a letter pretty quick or else ill chop some of his “fat” bubbles.
Love ya all
Mickey
